Your dog will master 7 core commands with off-leash reliability: Come (recall), Sit & Extended Sit, Down & Extended Down, Place (sit on any object you point to), Heel (walk beside you), Off (stop unwanted behavior), and Break (release command). Extended means they hold the position until you release them. Learn about off-leash training →
Yes. Our 8-lesson Therapy Dog Preparation course ($1,000+) prepares your dog for certification through Therapy Pets Unlimited. We are certified evaluators and can test and certify your dog upon successful completion. Many of our graduates easily pass certification. Learn about therapy dog training →
Sessions take place in real-world environments — parks, neighborhoods, stores, beaches, and your home. We believe dogs need to perform where you actually live your life, not just in a facility. In-home training is conducted entirely at your location. Board & Train dogs live with the trainer and train in multiple environments daily.
We teach you how to incorporate training into your daily routine — no need to set aside a specific block of time. Walking your dog? That's heel practice. Dinner time? That's a "place" command opportunity. Guests arriving? Door manners practice. Training becomes part of your life, not an addition to it.
E-COLLAR TRAINING
An e-collar is an electronic collar controlled by a handheld remote that delivers gentle, adjustable stimulation — comparable to a phone vibration or a light muscle tap. It uses the same TENS technology found in medical physical therapy devices. The remote allows you to communicate with your dog at distances up to 400 yards, creating reliable obedience even off-leash. It is not a "shock collar." Learn about e-collar training →
No. The term "shock collar" refers to outdated 1960s-70s devices. Modern e-collars have 100 adjustable levels — most dogs work between levels 3-15. During your first session, we put the e-collar on your arm so you feel exactly how mild it is. We also demonstrate it on ourselves. The same technology is used by military K9 units, law enforcement, and search-and-rescue teams worldwide because it is safe and effective.
No. Inside your home, your dog will quickly respond to voice commands without the collar. However, we recommend putting it on before going outside off-leash — just like wearing a seatbelt in a car. You may never need it, but the one time a squirrel or another dog catches their attention, you'll be glad you have it. Many graduates eventually go fully collar-free over time.
The opposite! When you turn the e-collar on, it beeps. Most dogs quickly learn that beep means they're going outside to run, play, and train — and they come running, sit down, and wait for you to put it on. A trained dog associates the e-collar with freedom, adventure, and engagement — not punishment.
Yes. E-collar training works on dogs of any size, shape, and age (above 5 months). Small dogs typically work at very low levels (2-8 out of 100). Smaller contact points are available for small breeds. We've successfully trained hundreds of small dogs including Chihuahuas, Yorkies, Dachshunds, and Shih Tzus.
AGGRESSION, ANXIETY & BEHAVIOR
Yes. We specialize in aggressive dog rehabilitation. Approximately 30% of aggressive dogs can be fully rehabilitated, while 70% can be made significantly more manageable and controllable. We offer an 8-week Aggression & Anxiety program ($1,100) and a 2-week Aggression Board & Train ($3,500) for human aggression and bite cases. Learn about behavior modification →
It is impossible to guarantee complete fixes of major behavioral issues such as dog aggression or people aggression. What we can guarantee is significantly more control and better tools to manage these issues safely. Our experience shows roughly 30% of cases achieve full rehabilitation, while 70% become substantially more manageable — a life-changing improvement for most families.
Yes. Our $3,500 Aggression/Anxiety Board & Train is specifically designed for human aggression cases and dogs with bite history. An evaluation is required before acceptance. Your dog lives with a certified trainer for 2 weeks receiving intensive daily behavior modification alongside full obedience training. Learn more →
Yes. Separation anxiety is one of the most common issues we address — especially in dogs adopted during or after COVID-19. Our training builds independence through structured alone-time exercises, crate training, confidence building, and the "place" command, which teaches your dog to remain calm and settled even when you're not in the room.
Absolutely. Leash reactivity — lunging, barking, and pulling toward dogs or people on walks — is one of the most common issues we see. Our Aggression & Anxiety program ($1,100) specifically targets reactivity through controlled exposure, desensitization, and obedience under distraction. Most leash-reactive dogs show dramatic improvement within the first few sessions.
Yes. Since 2020, we've seen a significant increase in dogs with poor socialization, fear-based reactivity, and separation anxiety from missed developmental windows during COVID-19 lockdowns. These pandemic puppies — now 4-6 years old — need specialized approaches including structured socialization, confidence-building drills, and gradual exposure therapy. Many achieve full off-leash reliability once underlying anxiety is addressed.
Obedience teaches commands (sit, stay, come). Behavior modification addresses root psychological causes behind aggression, anxiety, and reactivity — it changes how your dog feels about triggers, not just what they do. If your dog would still be a problem even after learning every command perfectly, you need behavior modification. Learn about behavior modification →
PUPPY TRAINING
As early as possible! Our puppy consultation is available for puppies with the majority of their vaccinations. E-collar training begins at 5 months old. For puppies under 5 months, we use positive reinforcement, clicker training, and structured socialization to build a strong foundation. Learn about puppy training →
No problem! Our Puppy Training Consultation ($100) covers house training, crate training, socialization, pack structure, and basic foundation work using treats and clicker training — no e-collar. We also offer the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Package ($400) — 6 private positive-reinforcement classes with AKC certification upon completion.
Puppy biting and nipping is normal developmental behavior — but it needs to be redirected early. Our puppy program teaches bite inhibition through structured play, redirection to appropriate toys, and clear communication. We also teach you how to respond consistently so the entire family reinforces the same boundaries.
We teach structured potty training during our puppy consultations — including crate scheduling, recognizing your puppy's signals, and teaching them to let you know when they need to go outside. Consistency is key, and we give you a clear daily routine to follow. Read our potty training guide →
A clicker is a small device that makes a distinct "click" sound used to instantly mark desired behavior, immediately followed by a treat. This helps puppies learn commands faster by precisely marking the correct behavior in real-time. We use clicker training with puppies under 5 months before transitioning to e-collar communication at 5 months old.
BREED-SPECIFIC QUESTIONS
Yes. Our training system works for every breed — from German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois to Golden Retrievers, Doodles, Pit Bulls, Huskies, Chihuahuas, and mixed breeds. We've trained 1,500+ dogs in Jacksonville of every breed, size, and temperament. The e-collar's 100 adjustable levels allow us to calibrate precisely for each dog's individual sensitivity.
Absolutely. Pit Bulls and bully breeds are among the most responsive dogs to our training system. They're intelligent, eager to please, and thrive with clear structure and communication. We've trained hundreds of Pit Bulls in Jacksonville — many of whom had aggression or reactivity labels that were resolved through proper training and socialization.
Yes — and these "stubborn" breeds are often our favorite to work with. Huskies, Goldendoodles, Labradoodles, and other high-energy breeds aren't actually stubborn — they're intelligent dogs who need clear, consistent communication. The e-collar provides exactly that, giving you reliable control even with the most independent-minded dogs.
No! We train dogs of all ages — from 5-month-old puppies to 10+ year-old seniors. Older dogs can absolutely learn new behaviors and obedience. While puppies may pick up new concepts slightly faster, senior dogs bring maturity and often form training bonds quickly. The only requirement is that your dog is healthy enough to participate in training activities.
